Project Portfolio

Just some of the project experience within MatRI....

FIRE SHIELD:

This project aims to develop an innovative soft skinned fire resistant cable for fire safety applications manufactured using integrated cold gas dynamic spraying and polymer extrusion technologies.

START: STRETCHING & TURBULANT AIR RIBBON TECHNOLOGY:

Development of a retro-fitted dry-cleaning unit for agricultural film waste and inter-related web-based logistical software to reduce transport costs and improve the competitive position of organisations within the recycling supply chain.

BLADE RUNNER:

Development of an innovative, low cost pyramidal radar absorbing compoiste structure for wind turbine blades.

OPTI-TEMP-TANK:

The project aims to produce modular constructed thermally insulated land based fish farming tanks with controlled water temperature. Biogas generated through anaerobic digestion of the waste biomass will be used as an energy source. The optimal water temperature will allow the fish to grow to their maximum rate giving a better yield and enabling production of any species anywhere in the world.

BARRIER:

A new concept for improving the barrier properties of commodity polymers in thick sections, enabling their long term use in aggressive environments as effective barrier layers.

COOL-VAN:

An innovative environmentally friendly adsorption refrigeration system for automotive applications that is powered by vehicle exhaust waste thermal energy to reduce transportation energy and costs.

ELECTRO-BAND:

A cost effective treatment for venous leg ulcers combining novel compression bandage and electrical stimulation to dramatically reduce healing time.

IMPACT-USS:

This project proposes to develop a system for producing a surfacing material from recycled rubber tyre crumb, using water-curable polyurethane chemistry, in a format that can be sold to and used by general contractors. Controlled particle size distribution and weak cross-linking of the pre-polymerised PU will ensure that the material is self-levelling and packing, so that no specialised techniques are required to lay the material.

MEDI-VOICE:

A low cost, environmentally friendly, smart pharmaceutical packaging technology to differentiate European SME suppliers to service the needs of the blind, illiterate and Europe’s ageing population.

POLYDRY:

The development of an in-line energy efficient polymer microwave based moisture measurement and drying system.

SEPARATE:

Eco-efficient designs for end-of-life separation and recycling of electro-polymeric products.

SAFE PASSAGE:

A low cost, safety critical functionally graded radar absorbing material for wind turbines.

SPRAY TRACK:

The principle objective of our project is to develop a cost effective maskless dry metal powder spraying technology to write conductive tracks on to complex two or three-dimensional structures primarily of a polymer or ceramic substrate.
